In 1890, an eight-page editorial by Franklin Harrison appeared in the magazine "19th Parthenon entitled "Return the Elgin Marbles! Polytheism - The Ancient Greeks were polytheistic. He looted what Turks and other barbarians had considered sacred. These are only some of the aesthetic and architectural features of the Parthenon, some of which modern science has still been unable to explain. We are told by Forbin, a French traveller of the time, that the Caryatid Elgin removed was the best preserved of them all.
